Because Digital Image Pro does not have an official way that allows you to import and use brushes as other software packages do, we have to go about using them in digital scrapbooking in a different way. But we can use them very effectively and they are great fun. But we can actually end up with many more interesting results that aren't available in other software packages, so it’s really neat!

Let’s begin...

Create your new scrapbook layout file.

 

Insert the background into your layout that you wish to use in your digital scrapbooking layout.

 

Find the PNG folder that came with your brush delivery. Browse to it through Insert> File from Computer and select one of the files to use.

 

This is what a brush might look like once it is inserted into your layout.

 

Because the brush image wasn’t as long as my canvas, I duplicated it, lined it up and cut off the extra with the Marquee Tool. Then I grouped those layers so that they were one layer.

 

To change to color of the image, go to Effects> Fill with Texture or Color.

 

I have changed my brush color to white.

 

Next, I duplicate that layer and rotate it upside down.

 

Then I merge the layers so that I can treat them as one unit. This will allow me to show you some other neat things.

 

I can apply filters to them and get neat effects with them.

 

Now I’ve inserted one of the Grungy Edging Brushes by Lori Cook.

 

Here’s what it looks like when I have copied it, pasted it around the photo and then grouped the four sides into a single layer. I haven’t colored it or done anything with it yet. It is still in its original black state, but even that looks neat!

 

This is what it looks like if I group the photo and the brush edges together, and then use the Magic Wand to select the black, followed by Deleting it out. I love how it took out the bottom of the photo. If I didn’t want that to happen, though, I could have changed the brush color to some color that is not found in the photo (like bright blue). Then when I deleted the color out, only the Grungy Edge would have gone and I would have just been left with an aged edge on my photo.

There are truly limitless possibilities using these brush files in your digital scrapbooking layouts. Just bring those PNGs in and start playing!
