Using Digital Brushes as Rub-ons
Note: Tutorial shown with screenshots from Adobe Photoshop 7 on a Mac.
In working on my art journal for my Guard Your Heart Online Class, I stumbled on yet another cool way to use digital brushes in printable projects. I want to share it with you and give you a sneak-peek at a page from my journal. My screen shots are from Photoshop 7 on a Mac. Keep in mind, you can do this with any digital brushes.

Open one of the PNG files from Thao Cosgrove's A Year to Remember Brushes, and resize it so it will fit on your printable project as you like.

Open a new document sized at 8.5x11 inches. Using the Move Tool, drag the calendar PNG into this blank 8.5x11 document. Make sure it's aligned with your printer's margins.

Because this brush is made up of numbers, I had to mirror the image before printing. This way, when I go to rub it on my paper, the numbers won't be backwards. To do this, make sure the calendar brush layer is highlighted in your Layers Palette. Then, choose Edit> Transform> Flip Horizontal.

This is what it should look like.

To print my rub-on, I use heavy-duty sheet protectors. (I found out the hard way to get more durable sheet protectors, as the flimsy, cheaper ones didn't go through my printer very well.) Print the brush out, keeping in mind the ink will be wet, so don't touch it or it will smear. (I found that out the hard way too!)
Flip the sheet protector over and lay it onto your paper wherever you want to place the calendar brush. Be careful not to move it, as it will easily smear. Rub over the top with your finger to transfer the ink.
Tip: Wipe the sheet protector clean with a tissue and you can use it over and over again. Talk about cheap rub ons!
