Getting that Paper Pieced Look in Your Digital Scrapbooking Layouts with Layer Your Own Brushes
Note: Tutorial written with screenshots from PSCS2 on a Mac.
I want to make a Christmas Tree digital scrapbooking embellishment for a layout, but I want to paper piece it with different papers from Melissa Renfro's Golden Holiday Collection (retired). The ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brush Sets make it simple to "paper piece" digitally. Here's how.
1. Set up a new 12x12, 300 dpi document for your digital scrapbooking layout.
2. Open your choice of digital scrapbooking background paper for your tree base.
3. Create a new layer in the background paper document. Using the Brush Tool, add the Solid Tree Brush to your new layer.
4. Use the Magic Wand Tool to select your tree base. You should see marching ants outlining your tree shape.
5. With your green paper layer highlighted in your Layers Palette, choose Edit> Copy.
6. Edit> Paste into your new 12x12 document.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 to cut out things to decorate your tree (such as stars, dots, stripes, trunk, etc.).
8. Use the Layer Your Own Brushes to add outline brush strokes. This will make your digital scrapbook tree embellishment stand out more.
9. I decided to add one more layer of red to the back of the tree to really make the tree stand out. I used the Thick Outline Brush to do this, and followed steps 2-6 again.
10. Merge the tree layers and add a drop shadow to finish the tree.
