Time for the Sidewalk Chalk

This is the time of year when everyone in our household is getting really uptight. We’re all wearing on each other’s nerves. The weather looks beautiful from the inside, but you go outside and it’s frigid. It keeps taunting me about how spring is right around the corner.

I’ve started planning for the garden, planting starts, and mapping out the garden. I’ve been thinking about home improvement projects, especially painting walls when I know I can throw the windows open for fresh breezes instead of cold ones.

I’m counting down the days for playing in the parks, kids playing outside instead of inside making messes, living in swimsuits, picnics, bike rides, hikes, and long sunny days. Until then, it’s still warm enough to throw on a coat and enjoy the fresh air which we so desperately need. The driveways are dry and clear of snow which means it’s time to pull out the sidewalk chalk — something my kids love. From drawing pictures to treasure maps that wrap around the entire house to roads for all their cars to messages for friends…it’s a happy day when they can go outside and get all chalky.

There’s something that makes this mom just completely happy to go outside and find the ugly cement decorated with lots of colors, pictures, and signs of pure enjoyment. Maybe I’m going to raise a bunch of graffiti artists, but for now their childish graffiti all over my cement pad makes this mom incredibly happy.
