Presentation Digital Scrapbook 1-2-3 Part 1: PowerPoint

In this tutorial, you will learn the following things: How to open your presentation. How to save your presentation as a new document. How to add photos to your presentation. How to add text to your presentation and how to duplicate slides and how to add a frame.

Note: if you are using an older version of PowerPoint, your interface will look slightly different, you won’t have all the frame options either.

Alright, let’s get started.

After you’ve downloaded and unzipped the presentation file and look in the folder, you’ll see that you have these things: You will find a folder containing all of the .jpg graphic files to build the presentation. This allows people who want to use this product with graphic software such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro to still enjoy it.

You’ll also have two presentation files. One is labelled 97 through 2003 and this so our friends who have very old versions of PowerPoint can still use the product. And then you’ll have this one. This will be the file that almost everyone will use. It is compatible with newer versions of PowerPoint, with Impress and of course you can use it with Keynote. So whether you are a PC user or a MAC user, you will still use this file. You will also have a Marketing graphic that allows you to easily remember what item you are looking at.

Ok, lets open it up. All you have to do to get it open is just double click right on the file and your software will open. There we go. And you will see you have got the files, you have 6 files and they are all embedded ready to go.

Alright, the first thing we are going to do is add some photos. This is really easy. You are going to go up and find your ‘insert’ command and we’re going to look for a picture. Ok, so let me get the photos. I think I’ll choose this one and I’m just going to hit ‘insert’ and the photo pops right into the file.

Now, I want to resize it so I’m going to just hover over this corner and I’m going to drag it in. You want to do it from the corner so that the photo resizes proportionately. And I think I’m going to add a little frame to this. And if you’ll see, PowerPoint comes with some nice frame options. See, look at this one, some are kind of interesting. And I can kind of see what they look like by hovering over them. That’s kind of fun with the corner. So really your options are really… I think I’ll use this one. It’s rotated and has this neat lifted shadow which is a neat effect.

Now I’m going to add some journaling so I’ll come up to insert and look for the text box. Double click on the spot where I want text and I’m going to type in “Baby Stella”. Now I’m going to change the font. To do this all you have to do is highlight my text, making sure I’m on the homepage, I can select the font that I wish to use from the dropdown box (I think I’ll just choose this one) and I can choose which size I want the font to be and notice how PowerPoint just shows you right away what it will be.

If I want to change the font color, I’ll just go to this dropdown and pick something that I think looks nice. If I don’t like any of those options, I can go to more colors… pretty much the sky is the limit when you get in here. There we go.

Of course we can do other things like bold the text, italicize the text, just the standard kind of commands you will see in any Office product, right here very handy.

Now, before I go any further, I’d better save this document, this presentation, as a new file so I won’t accidentally mess up my original. So I just go to “Save As” choose PowerPoint and I will just add on here and now it’s got a unique name and I’m safe no matter what I do with it I won’t be ruining my original file.

Now this comes with 6 slides and chances are very high that when you are making your album, you will need more pages than that. Let me show you how simple it is to have more pages. Just come over here to the file sorter, I right click on it, and I choose duplicate slide. Now really, what can be easier than that. Now that I’ve got my slides duplicated, I think I want to reorder these a little bit. So I just come over here, grab it and drag it down. See how easy that is.

Alright, we’ve just finished the first part of this tutorial and you’ll be learning some other tricks in parts 2 and 3.
