Note: Tutorial shown using Adobe Photoshop CS2 on a
PC running Windows XP.
As scrapbookers and digi-artists, we are always on the
lookout for new and unique ways to bring our photos out of our scrapbooks
and off our computers. What better way to show off our love of photos
and scrapbooking than putting them out there on display?
Creating memories to frame is a relatively simple way
to do just that. The best part? You can use any type or size of frame
and make it any theme you want. They can be displayed on a shelf,
mantle or wall. Not only will you want to make several for yourself,
but what fabulous gifts they will make for family and friends! Before
you know it, there won’t be a plain frame in sight!
Let’s get started:
Step 1: Choose your photo(s), digital
supplies and a frame.

Step 2: Open your graphics program
(I am using PSCS2), and open a new transparent 300 px document the
size of your frame opening. I will be using a standard frame size
of 8x10.

Step 3: Choose a background from your
stash and drag it over to your new document. I have chosen a paper
from my Kailey Collection. Move it around until you
like the placement, and close the original background.

Step 4: A really easy way to matte
your photo is to use a ScrapSimple Digital Layout Template!
I am using my ScrapSimple Digital Layout Template –
Layered: Valentine (template #3) and I am using the letter-sized template. You may need to adjust the size of the template pieces
slightly, but in most cases, they will fit just fine. I am only using
the photo matte and framing matte from the template set.

Step 5: Drag your photo over to the
photo matte, resize if necessary and select "Create Clipping
Mask" from the Layer menu. This will wrap your photo around the
matte.

Step 6: Select a coordinating color
for the framing matte and repeat Step 5.

Step 7: Now drag your framing matte
(or other template element you might be using) and your photo over
to your project.
Step 8: Add a drop shadow to your
photo(s) and matte(s).

Step 9: Add embellishments to complete
your photo matte.

Step 10: Now save and print out on
either glossy or matte photo paper. Trim to fit and slip into your
frame and hang on your wall or display on a shelf!
Wasn’t that easy? This was a very simple photo
matte, but you can get really creative and add much more detail to
your own. Go crazy! Just think of all the frames you can fill with
your creations using the fabulous products available at Scrap Girls.
Happy framing!
