Creating CD Case Calendar Pages
Note: Tutorial written with screenshots from Adobe Photoshop CS2 on a PC.
Do you need a unique but easy gift idea for this holiday season? Then this is the gift idea for you! The best part is you only have to design the calendar pages once and then you can print off multiple copies to give to family, friends, and teachers. They make great stocking stuffers!
Here at Scrap Girls, we have many products that can be easily adapted to use on your CD calendar pages.
For this project I have used the following:
- Mod Dawg Papers
- ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Calendar Brush Set
- Empty CD Case
- Great White Imaging & Photo Paper – Matte Finish 37lbs
Open Photoshop and create a new 300 pixel, transparent document 4 ¾" x 4 ¾" square. These are the dimensions of your calendar page base. Make a duplicate copy (Ctrl+D) and name it "CD Calendar Master," Save and close. This way you will have a master so that you do not have to keep creating a new document. Just open the master and make a duplicate copy (Ctrl+D).
Choose a background and an accent paper. I have used two designs from the Mod Dawg Papers. Drag the background paper onto your calendar.
Make a duplicate copy of your accent paper (Ctrl+D). Close original and resize accent paper to 4” square. Drag this onto your base.
Go to your Brush Palette and load your ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Calendar Brush Set. Create a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N) to do your brush work on. Select the calendar grid and size to fit on the accent paper. Make sure to leave room for the days of the week and the month at the top.
Add the month, days of the week, numbers and accents to your calendar grid. If this is a gift you may want to leave off accents to the actual days inside the grid to allow for personalization by the recipient.
Add drop shadows to the accent paper and any embellishments you have used.
Print out the calendar. You can get two calendar pages per letter-sized page. It is best to print on a light- to medium-weight cardstock type paper so that you can fit them in the CD case. Cut out.
Slip into your CD case.
