Hi fellow scrappers!

It's time for us to discuss papers. Papers are a vital part of both paper and digital scrapbooking. You could do almost anything with them.

Here are some fun ideas:

• Turn a paper to an alpha.
• Mix them with your photos.
• Create a new background paper from several papers using “Blend Mode.”
• Turn a swirl and cover it with paper.
• Use it as a photo mat.

These are just a few things that you can do. The possibilities are endless and honestly, I couldn't live without papers. I usually use papers for my layering for custom square and circle shapes, sometimes for ribbons. I’m going to show you two of my favorites.

For Adobe Photoshop CS2 users:

I started with several papers. I’ve experimented and checked if they work together. I came up with four papers from different designers and played around with the Blend Mode. The one on the left is my paper after blending all four. I just love the result.

Below are the settings used for each Layer:

Layer 1 – Blend Mode: "Color," Opacity: 46%
Layer 2 – Blend Mode: "Normal," Opacity: 76%
Layer 3 – Blend Mode: "Linear Burn," Opacity: 40%
Layer 4 – Blend Mode: "Normal," Opacity: 28%

For Microsoft Digital image Suite users:

I opened a brush set border and a paper. Click on Effects> Fill with Texture or Color, then select the paper from the stack.

This is the finished product after I filled the border with paper from Thao’s Hana Papers.

I decided to highlight my border with white by clicking Highlight Effects> Edges> Highlight. Click “Thick Under” and adjust accordingly. I just made the background black for us to see the border with white edges, fine tuned the edge width at "5." I won’t need the black background later on.

This is my page, with blended papers. I made a frame using a border brush. I added some flowers and a swirl. I also added some Word Art and adjusted the Opacity and color.
