Supplies:

• 1 8.5" x 11" sheet PhotoEz Standard Resolution
• 1 8.5" x 11" inkjet transparency
• 1 Baby Onesie (bodysuit)
• Silkscreen Paint
• Squee-gee or credit card
• Painter's tape

 

I bought a plain, white baby bodysuit to make a baby gift with. If you silkscreen fabric, such as a t-shirt, a tote bag, or a onesie, you might want to iron the fabric first.

 

Measure the area you have to work with and figure out how large you would like the image to be.

 

I thought it would be fun to use my Rock and Roll Transparency Special (retired).

 

Print your design in black onto a sheet of transparency. Let the transparency dry.

 

Follow the manufacturer's directions on exposing the PhotoEZ. I took my screen and transparency and exposed the PhotoEZ for about 40 seconds in the bright sun on a baking sheet.

 

Let your silkscreen dry completely.

 

I could place the silkscreen on the onesie now, but I need something to stabilize the fabric. Insert a piece of cardboard inside the onesie.

 

Using painter's tape, tape down the screen to the onesie, making sure not to leave any open areas on the bottom. If there are any exposed areas, the paint might seep onto the fabric where you don't want it.

 

I've chosen to use red screen printing ink.

 

With a disposable plastic spoon, I've spread some paint along the top of the screen.

 

Using a squeegee, press down at the top of the screen and drag down to just above where the tape is.

 

If you have enough ink and apply the right amount of pressure, there should be an even amount of paint on the screen. Gently remove the tape and screen. Rinse the paint off of the screen immediately and let dry for reuse. Your screens can be used repeatedly if you keep them clean.

 

Let the ink dry thoroughly. If the silkscreen ink manufacturer says to do so, iron the onesie on both sides of the fabric to heat set the paint.
