Product Review: Textures
One of the looks that I really like in traditional paper scrapbooking is the look of embossed papers. And with the Texture product line from Scrap Girls, you can easily achieve this embossed look in computer scrapbooking as well.
To begin, load the texture files into your program. (Simply follow the instructions that are included in your download.) Open a new file and either drag the paper you want to apply the texture to into this new file or fill this file with color. The next step is to apply the texture - these instructions are also included in your download.
Now comes the fun part; you can play with the Size and Relief of this product until you get the look you desire. The Sizing is going to adjust just that, the size of the design. If you want a larger design, start with adjusting it above 100%. A lower number is going to make that design smaller.

The Relief is going to adjust the amount of the embossed look. If you're looking for a softer look, you'll want a lower Relief. The photo above has the Size of 160% and a Relief of 5%.

To get a stronger embossed look, set your Relief at a higher number. This is the same texture and background paper, the only difference is the Relief is set at 20%.

Another fun technique that I really like to do with the textures is to give your paper a soft, chalked look. To do this, add a layer above your paper and use your Brush Tool. I chose the Wet Media Brush> Large Texture Stroke Brush. I lowered the opacity of the brush and then changed the Layer's Blend Mode to "Overlay." Using my brush, I softly colored in the smaller flowers. Now remember, you want this to have an uneven look for it to be as natural as possible.
Try the above technique on an element such as tags or frames. It adds the perfect finishing touch.
So the next time you're looking to add a unique style or look to a paper or embellishment, why not try adding a texture to it?
