In November 2011, my husband and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. We used that as an excuse to consider visiting one of the neighboring Hawaiian islands. We had never been to Kauai, and we were giddy when we realized we had enough air miles to get our flights there for free and even giddier when local friends offered to let our four children stay the night with them so we could make this little anniversary getaway a reality.
Just in case you are looking for one, here's a handy-dandy little list of excuses for future reference. You should be able to find something here to suit almost every occasion that requires an excuse for a goof, mistake, oversight, or need to say no to something you should not or do not want to do.
- The future is now.
- Life is good. Let's keep it that way.
Many digital scrapbookers use keyboard shortcuts to speed up the tasks they do over and over in Photoshop. For example, Cmd+C (Mac) and Ctrl+C (PC) make a duplicate copy an embellishment or alpha, and Cmd+V (Mac) and Ctrl+V (PC) paste the copy. But did you know you can customize your own keyboard shortcuts?
Project Notes (1/7/12): This week, I gathered. Looking through the boxes, bins, and files was shocking. I have been careless with some of my most valuable possessions - my family's memories.
I must remember why I am creating my Life Scrapbook.
You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? Well, sometimes a few words can create a wonderful picture, too.

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to hello@scrapgirls.com. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

I love the Designer Do-Over articles. It's so much fun to see how everyone's style has evolved. When I signed up for this one, I wanted to do something a little differently. I wanted to show how I could do-over a layout, not by changing up the items used, but by just moving around the items I already used and by adding very few new items.
When the January Scrap Girls Club - Reflections of the Heart - arrived in my inbox, I knew I'd use it for a canvas project. It's an exact match for the colors in our master bedroom and bathroom. We already have a simple quad of 8x8-inch canvases in our bedroom, covered simply in pretty scrapbook paper. I wanted this design to be a bit more elaborate with word art and a few embellishments as well as pretty paper. I love the idea of collaging various sizes and shapes of canvases together in a grouping, which would also allow me to use more of the beautiful papers from this month’s club selection by Jen Reed.
Using templates to create layouts is an easy way to get a jump-start on your creativity. Using layout templates to create backgrounds for your photo books is a super way to get a ton of pages done – fast! There are times when I think about making a photo book, and as much as I would love to have printed books of our family pictures, I have been intimidated by the number of pages involved.
In any kind of design, there are two types of spaces - positive space and negative space. In digital scrapbooking, the positive space is the visual information you are providing to the viewer such as photos, journaling, title, and embellishments. And negative space, often called "white space," is the absence of these items, such as the background paper.
One of my favorite projects every year is photographing my kids and sending prints to all their grandparents. I soon discovered that I could get a better price printing all the smaller-sized photos I wanted if I assembled them on 8x10-inch prints. That was the purpose of creating my ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Portrait Package and ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Portrait Package 2. They are a quick and easy way to assemble smaller photos onto a larger print. They are sized as standard prints for easy printing at your favorite print lab.
