Digital Scrapbooking Layout by Melanie Cockshott

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

In order to make my stamped brush alpha actually looked stamped onto my layout, I stamped the letters I needed in my title. Then I duplicated the title and played around with the Blending Modes until I could see a bit of the pattern/texture through the letters. I ended up using Overlay at 90% opacity on the bottom layer and Color Burn at 70% on the top layer. Using Blending Modes on my letters prevents my title from looking as though it is "floating" on my page.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

This template from ScrapSimple Digital Layout Album Templates: 12x12 Smart Stackers Volume 1 has places for curved trim. While I could have used papers to color the trim pieces in the layout template layers, I chose to use the tape measure and lace instead. Then I used the Puppet Warp Tool in Photoshop (Edit> Puppet Warp) to manipulate them to fit the curves of the template.

Digital Scrapbooking Layout by Jody West
"Galeries Lafayette" by Jody West

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

This magnificent picture from Galeries Lafayette in Paris is so intricate and stunningly beautiful, and I needed an alpha to match it. I wanted something quite elegant and stylish, but also functional – like the building. I chose Amanda Fraijo-Tobin's Brush Set: Grungy Lace Alpha Biggie. I kept the color simple, stamping on a separate layer, and just added a slight Outer Glow in a medium blue. The lace gave the page just the edge it needed and allowed me to keep the page simple with no embellishments except some bokeh for atmosphere.

Digital Scrapbooking Layout by Amy Flanagan
"Letting Go" by Amy Flanagan
larger view

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

On this digital scrapbooking layout, the word "letting" in the title was made from Brush Set: Art Diary Alpha Super Biggie. First, I stamped each letter onto its own layer and positioned them to my liking. Then I merged all the brush layers into one by highlighting them all and hitting Ctrl+E. Then I hit Ctrl+Click on the thumbnail of the newly merged layer so that the "marching ants" appeared. Next, I made a new blank layer underneath the merged brush layer. With the marching ants from the merged brush work layer still active, I selected the Paint Bucket Tool and clicked within the marching ants while on the newly made layer under the brushwork. The result is a fill within the marching ants - on its own layer. Then I clipped a coordinating paper to this layer. This creates a matte for the title work. This same process was done on the word "go" which was created with type.

January's Forum Game: Jumpstart January!

It's time to kick off the new year with some fun and a focus on scrapbooking! Join us on Scrap Girls Forum for "Jumpstart January!" This is a game and challenge that focuses on taking time to scrapbook regularly despite the little "speedbumps" of life. When the month is over you'll have completed several layouts and been treated to some fun along the way.

A Welcoming Committee Member will post a task each Monday through Saturday from January 1-31. The tasks will be formatted in a LARGE PURPLE FONT for ease of locating them in the game thread as it grows. Some tasks will require message board participation, email responses or gallery posting. Read each daily task carefully to see what is required of you.

Those who complete all the required tasks and submit or post required participation by 11:59 pm (ET) January 31st will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $10 Gift Certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Those who complete all the layouts will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $5 gift certificates. Each person who completes a layout will be entered – once for each completed challenge page - into a drawing for one of three $3 gift certificates.

For complete details, visit the Monthly Forum Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.
