Using the Flip-Pal Scanner with Fragile Old Photo Albums

When my mother passed away, I inherited several boxes of old photo albums, scrapbooks, and diaries ranging from 50 to 150 years old. I tried scanning a few albums pages with a flat-bed scanner, but the albums are fragile, and I was concerned about damaging them. I also found I needed to clean the scanner glass after each scan because the aging black pages left small flakes on the scanner glass and a black residue on my hands. I put the albums back in their box and moved on to other things.
Recently, I got a Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner from the Scrap Girls Boutique (look under “Cool Stuff”) and tried it out on a few of those old albums. The Flip-Pal Scanner is compact, battery-operated and doesn't need to be hooked up to a computer while scanning! It has a small LCD screen so you can see your scans and it saves them to an SD memory card which you can upload to your computer.
My favorite feature of the Flip-Pal scanner is that you can take off the lid, turn it over and scan photos while they are still in the album. The bottom of the scanner is clear so you are able to place it exactly where you need to on the page. This method of scanning is much easier on the old albums and minimizes the flaking and smudging issues I'd had with the old black paper.
Many of us have relatives who are careful guardians of the family albums. If you are visiting them for the holidays, the Flip Pal scanner is an ideal way to record your own digital copies of favorite photos in the family albums.

High Noon Crop

On December 12th we'll do a multiple photo challenge! Create a layout on any theme, any topic, and any colors - using FIVE or more photos!
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!

December's Forum Game: BINGO!
Join us for an exciting game of December BINGO on the Scrap Girls Forum!! Pick 25 words from the list provided and send them in an email to games@scrapgirls.com with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Forum username" by Sunday, December 2nd (Midnight EDT) in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Monday, December 3rd. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.
Each day (Monday through Saturday), a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.
Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!
