"Winter weather in Hawaii means lots (and lots and lots!) of rain. I designed the Cloudburst Collection Mini after one particularly playful afternoon with my kids outside in torrential downpour. It's a fun little digital scrapbooking kit that you can use for your warm winter weather layouts like ours or to compliment your upcoming spring photos." 1. What is currently playing on your iPod/radio? I'm a bit of a "Gleek." I have almost every one of the singles and all of the albums that have been released from the cast of the television show "Glee." My favorite songs from my 200+ song Glee playlist are "Thriller/Heads Will Roll," "Silly Love Song" and "Poker Face." But I honestly like them all! 2. Do you blog? If so, where can we find you? I've been blogging for about six years now! I love to write. I love having another way to document our family life and share photos and stories with friends and family around the globe. My family blog is Keeping It Real. I also began blogging about "Dropping the Plus from My Size" at my personal blog a few months ago and have loved sharing that life journey. |

Stay Safe Inside Your Bubble
Imagine, if you will, golden threads of light so fine that you can hardly see them. See the threads being woven by angelic hands into a tight mesh which is used to create a protective bubble which floats around you. This bubble insulates you from all of the insults, false accusations, misunderstandings, judgments, and unkindness the world tries to throw at you. When someone attempts to harm you in any way, their words or deeds hit the mesh and bounce far away. The only way their harmful emotions can reach you is if you cut a hole in the mesh and voluntarily allow them inside.
This fine, golden-mesh protective bubble has been designed so that when it is used properly, ultra-fine particles of love, light, and spirit pass through the mesh with ease. You are able to feel love and offer love from within your protected spot, and as you do, you feel the peaceful spirit and light of God's love surround you. You find it easy to forgive yourself and others.
Thoughts or feelings associated with negativity, hate, anger, jealousy of any sort, or evil are made of heavy, course particles that are unable to fit through the golden mesh. When you are inside the bubble, you are not only safe from the world, but the world is safe from you.
You quickly learn that allowing yourself to go to a negative state of mind keeps you stewing in your own negativity because the course, unpleasant feelings bounce around inside of your bubble and keep you on edge. To stop your own negative feelings from harming you requires that you recognize your errors, catch your bad feelings, and destroy them as soon as they appear. As you grow, you learn that you don't hurt anyone but yourself when stew in anger and unkind feelings.
If you can gather this image of your golden-mesh bubble in your mind, you will have a safe place to go whenever the world attempts to hurt you. You will know that you cannot be hurt unless you choose to be hurt, and that if you have allowed the course particles which have been thrown at you to permeate your bubble, you can make them go away if you melt them with the light of God's great love.
So whenever you feel hurt, imagine yourself in your golden bubble of light. Imagine love filling your soul to the point at which it overflows and emanates from you and back out of the mesh. See yourself awash with light. Be safe, because you are.
Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.

Once Upon a Time...

Salvador Dali... such an inspiring artist to so many in so many different ways. Recently, I visited the magnificent museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, that houses 96 of his works of art. Best known for his surrealistic style of painting, this was just the ticket I needed to inspire the direction to take when preparing this newsletter assignment.
Earlier this year, I wrote an article suggesting how you might journal from a child's perspective. Today, I want to take you in another direction, perhaps a "Dali" way of thinking, as to how you might record everyday events.
I recently spent a week at the beach with my three-year old grandson. While observing his play, I realized that he very much believes that fantasy is real. He absolutely loves pretend stories. Why not juxtapose real-life photos with a dream-like background? I decided to design a little book about him, yet tell the story in a fantasy fashion. Naturally, we could all agree that the opening sentence should read "Once upon a time...."

These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week. On February 1st, we'll do a Patterned Paper Challenge! Create a layout on any theme, any topic, and any colors - using multiple patterned papers - at least 2 different patterns! Mix it up! Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! January Message Board Game: Jumpstart January!
It's time to kick off the new year with fun and focus on scrapbooking! And a few prizes thrown in never hurt, right? Join us on the message board this month for "Jumpstart January!" This is a message board game and challenge to start your year with fun and focus on taking time to scrapbook regularly despite the little speedbumps of life. When the month is over, you'll have completed several layouts and been challenged and treated to some fun along the way.
A member of the Welcoming Committee will post a mini-challenge/task every Monday through Saturday during January. Some tasks will require message board participation, email responses, or gallery posting. Those who complete all tasks and submit or post required participation by 11:59pm MT on January 31st will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $10 Gift Certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Those who complete just the layouts will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $5 Gift Certificates. Those who complete just the speedbumps will be entered in a drawing for one of two $3 Gift Certificates. (Those who complete all tasks will have their name entered in all three drawings!)

January Monthly Layout Contest: With the beginning of a new year, many people set aside some time to set goals. It might be an exercise plan or establishing better eating habits. It might be getting your life more organized. Or maybe you set goals for your digital scrapbooking output for the year. Post your layouts in the January Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MST on January 31st. Be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
