Word Pictures
You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? Well, sometimes a few words can create a wonderful picture, too.
One cold Saturday morning, we had friends over early in the morning before leaving on an excursion. The kitchen was warm, and I had set out some treats to eat before we left, so it smelled of coffee, hot biscuits, cut fruit and such.
One young lady came in and said, "Oh, the kitchen smells heavenly!"
Smiling, I teased a little, "Do you think that's what heaven smells like? A warm kitchen on a cold day?"
Promptly, several pairs of eyes turned my way, and people exclaimed, "What a lovely picture you created in our minds; we can see the kitchen, the light, the food, and we can smell it, too, in our head."
Ah, the power of suggestion. Now, if we can make our scrapbook pages conjure up the same warm, wonderful feelings....

1. What program do you use to do your digital scrapbooking?
Adobe Photoshop Elements 9
2. Are you a Mac or a PC?
PC all the way, ever since DOS 1.5! Knowing how to get in via the basic system route has saved me many times.
3. Tell us the make and model of digital camera that you use.
I use a Fuji FinePix S700, 7.1 Mp with a 10X optical zoom. I love it because of the "natural light" setting that I can use almost anywhere indoors, without a flash.
4. Name one thing that every beginning digital scrapbooker should know.
Please yourself! While aspiring to scrap like some of the pros is ambitious, take the time to learn one good thing at a time before jumping into too many advanced techniques.
5. If you could be transformed into a digital scrapbooking embellishment, what would you choose and why?
Glitter! I've loved using glitter since I was a child, and it's possibly why I taught preschool for several years. I have to restrain myself from using it on every layout I create.
6. What time of day do you find that you do your best scrapbooking?
Any time that the house is empty, which most days is when the daughter is at school and the husband is at work.
7. What is your favorite snack?
Chips. No, chocolate. Or maybe... Wait, I have to pick one?
8. What is your least favorite household chore?
Cleaning the bathrooms.
9. Finish this sentence. "I couldn't live without..."
I couldn't live without the love and support of my family. They put up with all my hobbies and random oddities.
10. What's your current favorite layout that you've done?

Sketch Challenge Crop

It's time for the Sketch Challenge and Crop! Join Cheri (Cheri T) on Tuesday, January 24 at 7pm MT in the Scrap Girls Chat Room! Enjoy getting a little creative boost for your pages? Are you needing help getting started? Then this is the challenge for you! A few hours before the chat begins, Cheri will post a link for you to download the sketch. Use it as the starting point for your page; be inspired by the basic arrangement; flip things around or scraplift the whole thing. All interpretations of the design are welcome and encouraged. Don't worry about any deadlines... post your layout when it works with your schedule. Hope to see you there!
East Coast High Noon Crop
Wednesday, January 25th - 10:00AM MST
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 10am MT for the East Coast High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week. On January 25th, we'll be doing a Brush Challenge. Try to use at least two brushes in your layout. Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
Speed Scrap Crop
Wednesday, January 25th - 6:00PM MST
It's time for some Speed! Join Carla (CRS) and Shannon (tinkerbell11) at 6pm MT for the Speed Scrap Crop! We'll give you six tasks, spread out over an hour. You'll then have the hour to get your layout finished and posted in the Gallery!
January Message Board Game: Jumpstart January!
It's time to kick off the new year with fun and focus on scrapbooking! And a few prizes thrown in never hurt, right? Join us on the message board this month for "Jumpstart January!" This is a message board game and challenge to start your year with fun and focus on taking time to scrapbook regularly despite the little speedbumps of life. When the month is over, you'll have completed several layouts and been challenged and treated to some fun along the way.
A member of the Welcoming Committee will post a mini-challenge/task every Monday through Saturday during January. Some tasks will require message board participation, email responses, or gallery posting. Those who complete all tasks and submit or post required participation by 11:59pm MT on January 31st will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $10 Gift Certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Those who complete just the layouts will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $5 Gift Certificates. Those who complete just the speedbumps will be entered in a drawing for one of two $3 Gift Certificates. (Those who complete all tasks will have their name entered in all three drawings!)

January Monthly Layout Contest: With the beginning of a new year, many people set aside some time to set goals. It might be an exercise plan or establishing better eating habits. It might be getting your life more organized. Or maybe you set goals for your digital scrapbooking output for the year. Post your layouts in the January Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MST on January 31st. Be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
