"Be smart enough to tell the truth, but don't be stupid enough to tell everything you know." Professor Guyon Fox
"When you find the same 'new' idea in three notebooks spanning 15 years, perhaps you ought to work on it." Ro Paxman
"I read everything. You never know where you're going to get the next big idea." Melanie Griffiths in Working Girl
"Everybody smiles in the same language." I have no clue who said this. I found it in my notebook. I suppose it was the great scholar named Anonymous.
"If you don't have a smile, I'll give you one of mine." Anonymous was on a roll. He said this, too.
"We must slow down. There are things we cannot learn if we do not take time to pray, meditate, and listen." Neil L. Anderson
"I can't be mean by myself." Julianne P. Frazier
"All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to hello@scrapgirls.com. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Designer Do-Over
Note: Layout created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 with Mac OS 10.5.8 - Leopard
I made this layout with items from the Magic Movie Collection Biggie to preserve the memory of a Disney-Pixar Cars-themed birthday party. I like the layout, but I think it's slightly busy and hard to focus on the pictures, so I am going to do it over.

The Do-Over
The first thing I want to address is the photos. The background paper, the placement of the photos, and the frame colors contribute to the busy feeling of the original layout.
Instead of using JWH_MagicMovie_Paper_Gray for the background, I used it for the photo frames. This brings continuity to the frames and keeps the car racing diamond-plate metal element. I changed the background paper to JWH_MagicVacation_Paper_Black to let the red items in the layout pop. The ribbon placement was adjusted to flow better with the new photo arrangement.

Next, I'll make the embellishments flow with the new design. I used the same elements as before, but made them smaller and clustered them with the photos to allow for interest, yet still have areas for the eye to rest in the layout. With this arrangement, the photos retain their prominence.

Time to put a title on the new layout. I liked the original title wording, so I kept it. Using the yellow alpha from the Magic Movie Collection Biggie, I made the new title all from one style, so it was simpler and popped against the red and black items. I took the journaling out of the box so it integrates into the design, and I also tweaked the copy so it relates better to the title.

The new layout is just about finished. The last thing I want to do is "activate" the upper right corner. By putting the smaller pennant banner in the upper right corner, the "white space" between the photos and the corner becomes an active part of the design.
It's done! The new layout (below) is much more focused in design, yet still retains all the racing elements of the original. The only other thing I wish I could change is how fast he's growing up!
