is Both Wonderful and Terrifying
10 Things Motherhood Has Taught Me
Since it is going to be Mother’s Day on Sunday, I thought I’d
give you a few thoughts I have on the subject.
-
Motherhood provides ample opportunity to perfect my cleaning skills.
-
Children have an uncanny ability to teach their mothers the power
of free agency.
-
The grass is not greener on the parental side of the fence.
-
Fact: Socks disappear in dryers as part of a grand conspiracy
masterminded by the cotton industry. (That or little men from outer
space with one foot sneak in through keyholes at night and raid
homes for footwear. Take your pick.)
-
There is not enough cold cereal in the world to keep teenagers
fed.
-
Once you have a child, you are unable to visit the bathroom with
complete confidence that your experience will be solitary unless
you install deadbolts and move heavy furniture in front of the
door. This lack of privacy continues until you are dead (or until
your child becomes a parent and gains sympathy for your situation.)
-
“Control” is an illusion of a deluded mind. “Go
with the flow” is the practice of a calm spirit.
-
I am a magician. Every time I put money in my wallet, it disappears.
-
I am blessed. Every time my money disappears, money drops from
heaven into my bank account. (Okay, so we have to work for it to
drop into the bank account, but I still think it is coming from
heaven.)
-
“If Mama ain’t happy, nobody ain’t happy” is
more than a trite saying painted on country plaques.
My youngest child is going to be 18 next month. I’ve almost
completed the teenage-war years. Now, I’m into the grown-up child “scare-me-to-death” period.
If I’m lucky, before long I’ll be into the “oh-here-come-the-grandchildren-I-will-spoil-them-rotten-and-annoy-their-mother” stage.
I’m looking forward to it.
Yes, motherhood is both the most wonderful and terrifying experience

Tutorial: Photo Undertones

CS2 on a Windows XP.
Have you ever looked at a layout that seemed to have good ingredients,
but something wasn't quite right about it? Sometimes, a digital scrapbooker
will use a lovely collection to create a layout, but if the photo in
the layout has different undertones than the collection, the layout
won't look quite right.
All colors, except true neutrals, have warm
or cool undertones. People have undertones to their skin, also. Do
you remember how women used to be analyzed to see if they were a summer,
fall, winter or spring? The women with cool undertones (more bluish)
to their skin were classified as summer or winter and the women with
warm undertones (more yellow) were classified as fall or spring.
For example, the warm pink shown above has more yellow in it and the
cool pink has more blue in it. The pink on the left has warm undertones,
the one on the right has cool undertones.
Here is a layout with mainly warm undertones. However, the photo has
a strong bluish cast to it. It needs color adjusting to look better
in this layout.
In Photoshop CS2, with my photo layer selected, I will go to Image> Adjustments> Color
Balance. First, I make sure the circle beside "Shadows" is
clicked and I move the sliders to give the photo more red (+15) and
yellow (-30) as in the screenshot above. If you use Photoshop Elements,
you may make similar adjustments by using Enhance> Adjust Color> Color
Variations.
Now, I adjust the Midtones, making sure to click beside "Midtones" before
I start moving the sliders.
I adjust the Highlights. As you can see by the screenshot, the undertones
of the photo are warming up and the photo is going to look better in
this layout.
By the way, it is very easy to make color adjustments on
color photos as well as black and white. In fact, I usually color adjust
the photo for most layouts that I make, as my camera tends to shoot
with a bluish cast and most of my digital scrapbooking collections
tend to have warm undertones.
This is an art, not an exact recipe.
It's best to color adjust a copy of your photo. That way if you don't
like what you did, just start over with a new copy of the photo.
I'm

you make your digital scrapbooking layouts!

Girls?

it. And now, we are pleased to announce that yes, it is finally going
to happen... Scrap Girls is having a digital scrapbooking convention!
Here are the facts:
When: October 9-11th, 2008
- Note: Convention begins at 1:00 pm - Thursday, October 9th and
ends at 6 pm - Saturday, October 11th.
How many people may attend?
- Only 120 openings are available. Space is limited because
we have chosen a location that will allow us to provide a more intimate
experience for you. We want our attendees to get to know each other
and come away with friends for life! But this means that if you want
to attend the convention, you better sign up right now. (Besides,
you better get your airline tickets before the prices go up. That's
a reality. Get crackin'!)
- If you happen to miss the sign up, send an email to [email protected] and
we'll put you on a contact list. If someone suddenly can't attend,
we will have them post their opening on the message board, will email
you, and you can work it out with them to take over their spot.

May Board Game: Bingo
It's that time again!
Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Message Board
Forum in May! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum
and send them in an e-mail to [email protected] with
a subject line saying "BINGO CARD" and including
your message board user name by Sunday, May 4th in order to
play in the first round, which will begin Monday May 5th. Each
day, members of the Welcoming Committee will call 5 random
words from the Bingo list. Match just 15 of those words to
win a BINGO. You must be first to call bingo in the forum to
win that round. After a winner is called, the boards can be
cleared and a new round will begin the following day. All winners
win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Boutique! We like to see lots
of winners, so please remember that each person can only win
one round during the month. Have fun!
If you miss the first
round cutoff date, you can still play! Just send in your Bingo
card at any time during the month and you'll be eligible to
begin playing when a new round starts. Everyone who sends in
a Bingo card will receive a confirmation email that their card
has been received. If you do not receive confirmation within
24 hours, please re-send your list of words. We cannot be held
responsible for misdirected emails.
