Heidi lives in Utah with her husband, Dan, and two dogs, Rey the
Basset Hound and Clementine the rescued Redbone Coonhound. She
loves animals and the environment, but doesn't enjoy camping!
That's okay, her dogs are indoor-enthusiasts also.
Heidi grew up surrounded by the bits and pieces of art that she'd
made. She started making scrapbooks of magazine clippings as a
young girl, which progressed into actual scrap books filled with
mementos of her elementary and junior high school life, complete
with birthday cards, movie ticket stubs, notes from friends and
even her first love letter!
Scrapbooking in its current state began to rise in popularity
in the 1990's, and Heidi wasn't far behind. This craft merged everything
she loved: papers, colors, art, memories, photographs, writing,
shopping and organizing! She has been involved in the industry
ever since, managing local scrapbook stores, providing materials
to scrapbook magazines for publication, teaching scrapbook design
classes... you name it!
Heidi officially made her first digital scrapbook page in April
of 2005 after acquiring her Nikon D70. She wanted to be able to
use the freedom of digital editing in photography without spending
a fortune on photo processing. It was a natural jump for her since
she'd already spent eight years working with digital graphics for
web design.
If her career with Scrap Girls and scrapbooking doesn't pan out,
Heidi's backup plan is to become a Genetic Counselor. She has worked
at the University of Utah's Cytogenetics Lab, identifying chromosomal
abnormalities. She is currently finishing a BA in Psychology, and
hopes that will be enough to get her into the Master's program
(if desired) because she really is kind of not a big fan of school.
Being a Genetic Counselor will allow her to work with and help
people and families who have to deal with these abnormalities.
In addition to digital scrapbooking, Heidi attends college, reads
anything she can get her hands on, writes bad fiction, practices
photography, spoils her dogs and supports her husband in his seasonal
obsessions: biking in the summer, boarding in the winter! When she
gets tired of scrapping her husband's endless supply of outdoor
photos, she turns to the cute pictures of her niece and nephew!
